Rabies

Although most confirmed rabies cases occur in wildlife, many humans are given the rabies vaccine after an exposure to a domestic animal.

Loup Basin Public Health Department, the CDC, and

the American Veterinary Medical Association encourages you to keep your pets vaccinated to help protect you and your family against the rabies virus.

Bats are also susceptible to rabies and should be handled with care when they are found in your home.  To learn more about bats and rabies, and how to keep them out of your home, visit https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/bats/contact/index.html

Rabies is a medical urgency but not an emergency.  Contacting Loup Basin Public Health Department or your family physician regarding a possible exposure should not be delayed.
