Loup Basin Public Health Department encompasses nine rural counties in central Nebraska.   The local public health entity was formed in 2001 through inter-local agreements between Blaine, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Howard, Loup, Sherman, Valley, and Wheeler Counties.

Loup Basin Public Health Department is governed by a board comprised of a County Commissioner and community member from each of the nine counties.  Representatives from the medical and dental communities complete the Board composition.
