Why Should My Company Have a Worksite Wellness Program?

Cardiovascular disease (including heart disease and stroke) kills more LBPHD residents than any other condition – that’s including all cancers and unintentional injuries.  The main contributing factors of heart disease are physical inactivity, poor nutrition and tobacco, fortunately all of which can be changed – and employers can help!

What Can My Company Do?
Employers can help improve their employees’ health and maximize employee performance by taking simple steps to promote a healthier work environment.

How Can Loup Basin Public Health Department Help?
Loup Basin Public Health Department will help you get started at NO COST to you by:

  • Helping you complete a survey designed to assess your worksite’s organizational demographics and employee health offerings;
  • Providing you with resources to guide you in establishing a worksite wellness committee and creating a simple, ongoing Worksite Wellness Program at your facility;
  • Providing your business with the Loup Basin Worksite Wellness Toolkit;
  • Identifying model interventions that target nutrition and physical activity;
  • Conducting training sessions on how to implement worksite wellness goals; and
  • Providing technical support and assistance throughout the process

Who is Eligible to Participate?
Your worksite is eligible to participate if it is located in Blaine, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Howard, Loup, Sherman, Valley and Wheeler counties.

What Are a Few Examples of Model Interventions And Heart Healthy Policies?

  • Start a company-wide walking club during regular work breaks or before work.
  • Require nutritious foods be served at company meetings.
  • Stock a minimum of healthy choices in vending machines.
  • Offer regular “lunch and learn” health education programs.

Loup Basin Work Site Wellness Awards

Has your worksite implemented a successful wellness program?

Has your worksite implemented a successful wellness program or policy for employees, or changed your worksite environment to support healthy habits? If so, we invite you to submit an application for the 2011 Loup Basin Worksite Wellness Awards to be presented at the Loup Basin Worksite Recognition Banquet on March 15, 2011.
