A: Public health is an organized process which protects and promotes physical and mental health and works toward preventing disease, injury, disability, and premature death. Q: How is Loup Basin Public Health Department (LBPHD) funded? A: The creation of the health department is funded by the Nebraska Tobacco Settlement Bill, LB 692. The Health Department also writes grants, partners with research institutions and works with the State of Nebraska Health and Human Services to provide programs to promote healthy behaviors and lifestyles. Q: I found a dead bird. Do I test it for West Nile, or how should I dispose of it? A: During the summer months the health department is collecting birds that are in good condition (no insects or strong odor and eyes are not sunken in) for West Nile testing.
